About

WarPaint was established in the summer of 2013 in BackSwamp, North Carolina. Since then, we, have traveled throughout Indian Country, hosting and competing in tribal celebrations across the United States and Canada. Some of the powwows we have been honored to host or serve as invited drum include Gathering of Nations, Crow Fair, Navajo Nation Fair, Shakopee, Pechanga, Seminole Tribal Fair, Crow Creek, Apache Gold, Catawba Nation Powwow, White Earth, Powwow in Paradise (Honolulu), Suquamish Renewal Powwow, Muckleshoot, Legends Casino Powwow, Fisher River Cree Nation Powwow, Long Plain First Nation, Caldwell First Nation Powwow, Red Pheasant Powwow, New York Tuscarora Nation Powwow, and many more.

Comprised mainly of Katehnuaka Tuscarora who settled along Drowning Creek, WarPaint also includes members from the Catawba, Lakota, Dakota, Lumbee, Haliwa Saponi, and Nansemond tribal communities. One of our core goals is to compose and share songs in our Tuscarora language and carry them across powwow country.

Our name comes from our late grandfather Ray Littleturlte, who taught us, “When life gets hard, put your WarPaint on.”. This drum group carries forward his legacy and teachings.
